Sorry for another long absence in posting here. Hope everyone has had a good, fun festive holidays. Just a little short update about what has been going on. I’ve been redesigning market gallery’s website over the past couple of weeks. 10 year’s worth of exhibitions to archive and some re-schooling on CSS, PHP codes for indexhibit, its been pretty busy.

Found some really interesting work while I was looking through the archive’s of Studio Project, here are some of my favorites:

Sorry its been a while since I last logged on to my wordpress account and thought about typing something semi interesting and post. The winter bug has really got the better of me. But on a brighter note, the committee members at the market have organised a screening of photographer and film maker Chris Leslie work at Street Level, Trongate 103.

The event titled ‘Redrawing socio economic borders: Four stories of regeneration in Glasgow” pretty much sums up the similarities with my work and interest. Really looking forward in seeing his work.

To Live and Die

I recently shown an interest in the idea of how a city gets abandoned. While searching for some basic material, I came across WebUrbanist, which has 20 selection of adandoned cities and town. The one that stood out is Kowloon Walled city:

- This reminded me of my childhood times of watching triad films where my mum would bring back pirated ones from Malaysia. One of my favorite one was To Live and Die in Tsim Sha Tsui, which was based in Hong Kon (actually most of the famous triad movies in the 90s was based in Hong Kong)

PS1

This was my first visit to PS1 in Long Island, NYC. Walking into the outer area of PS1 with the site of an ‘Urban Shelter’ by MOS who was the winner of 2009 YAP 10th anniversary project. It was pretty scary trying to take photos in PS1, with this people wearing black t-shirts with big white PS1 logo. But here is what I have taken. Artists in this space: Lutz Bacher, Kenneth Anger, Jonathan Horowitz and Michael Joaquin Grey.

Market gallery currently has a residency for Studio Project 19, Dutch artist Iede Reckman. This project is in collaboration between Market and Scottish Sculpture studio and will have an exhibition on 26.09.09 and ends 24.10.09

V1 Copenhagen

I found my old sketchbook the other day which I did when I was in Malaysia 2005. Majority of the drawings here are things I saw while in Johor Bahru and Kluang. The name Ahfook came from a street in old town JB called Jalan Wong Ah Fook.

De rerum natura

I wanted to post something which Prince Charles talked about in his recent royal assertion. What I picked out from his speech was the current state caused by consumerism.

“What is more, countries that are undergoing rapid development are all assuming Western consumption patterns. By 2050 not only will there be nine billion people on the planet, but a far higher proportion than now will presumably have Western levels of consumption. These are facts, Ladies and Gentlemen, which we really cannot ignore any longer. But we do so because we hang onto values and a perception of things that had developed before we realized the consequences of our actions. ”

I was looking into the colour pink, which I was considering to have as a base colour for one of my drawing piece. I went on WiKi and came across De Rerum Natura, which translates as On the Nature of Things. This is a hefty 6 book poem which talks on atoms, mind, soul, thought, universe and chance. I only just past half way on book 1…
